 STAFF CHANGES JULY 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT

After being a GP Partner at Moordown Medical Centre for over eight years, Dr Chris Elfes has formally announced his decision that sadly he will be leaving us in July 2020. Dr Elfes has given excellent service and dedication to his patients and work colleagues alike. He will be greatly missed.

 

At the same time, we are delighted to announce that Dr Helen Wright will take over his role as a GP Partner. 

We are also currently advertising for additional clinicians to ensure we maintain our current capacity to offer a good service.

 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Elfes for all his hard work and support over the years and wish him good luck in the future. He is continuing to work in his other roles across medical assessment and education, but also intends to spend some time working abroad.

 

 

 

This will help during the Cornavirus outbreak as it cuts down visiting the surgery.

 

 

 

 

COVID 19 information & resources

Moordown Medical Centre

If you think you should be ‘shielding’ yourself from COVID-19 but have not heard from the government or a doctor, please do strictly follow government self-isolation advice anyway.

We are trying to get information out to all relevant people by April 7th. 

Please do not call our reception team asking about letters as they have no further information at this point in time.

Across the country doctors, nurses and all NHS staff are trying to help the country deal with an unprecedented situation in all our lifetimes. 

Normal working arrangements in primary care are no longer possible.

For example, it is simply inappropriate to issue Fit Notes (‘Med 3s’) for everyone affected. Please click this link to read the UK government COVID-19 guidance for anyone self isolating or off work due to coronavirus infection during the current pandemic.

The GPs at Moordown Medical Centre are proud of how our team are coping with the rapidly changing requirements and challenges. We ask that you bear with us and follow national advice closely. There are little but important things we can all do as individuals to help ourselves and each other.  

Please look after yourself, your friends and families but also consider any neighbours in your community that need your support. If we all pull together then we are stronger.

MOORDOWN MEDICAL CENTRE HAS CHANGED HOW WE ARE CURRENTLY OPERATING IN ORDER TO KEEP OUR PATIENTS, COLLEAGUES AND OURSELVES SAFE DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.

THE PRACTICE HAS TAKEN THE DECISION TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE ATTENDING THE SURGERY.  THIS MEANS THAT BOOKED ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS MAY BE CONVERTED TO TELEPHONE CALLS AND NON-URGENT APPOINTMENTS POSTPONED.

ANYBODY WHO REQUIRES URGENT ON THE DAY MEDICAL TREATMENT WILL BE SEEN BY ONE OF OUR CLINICAL TEAM.

WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT THAT SO MANY OF YOU HAVE SHOWN US IN THIS CHALLENGING TIME AND WILL ENDEAVOUR TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATIONS WHEN WE CAN.

What to do if you have symptoms (including cough, fever or flu-like symptoms)

If you have a cough, fever or flu-like symptoms you must self-isolate.

  • If you live ALONE this must be for 7 days from when your symptoms started
  • If you share your home with anyone else, ALL household members must isolate for 14 days from when the first persons symptoms started, until 7 days after the last person develops symptoms (i.e. this will be longer than 14 days for everyone if the last person to develop symptoms does so in the second week).

Unless you are seriously unwell, you do not need to contact any medical services. You do not need to contact either your GP or 111 just to let them know you are self-isolating.

If you do feel you are seriously unwell, you must use the 111 Coronavirus service BEFORE calling the surgery. If you call for an appointment without having done this and followed all their advice, our reception team will advise you only to call back once you have done this.

We do NOT have access to testing for the virus.


Self-isolation

If you have been given instructions to self-isolate by 111, you MUST follow this advice. You DO NOT need a GP Medical certificate (MED3) for this (see below).

Support for those affected/Sick Pay/Medical Certificates

To support people affected by COVID-19, various new measures have been introduced including:

  • eligibility for Statutory Sick Pay from day 1
  • no requirement for a GP MED3 to evidence self-isolation where this has been recommended, and
  • measures for those applying for Universal Credit who have been advised to self-isolate.

We will NOT be able to provide medical certificates in these situations, please direct your employers to this link if there is any doubt.


Letters regarding cancellation of travel plans and working from home

We are not able to give advice about working from home (see here) or issue letters supporting cancellation of travel plans (see here). Please do not call regarding this issue.


What can you do to reduce your risk?

DO

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

DON'T

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth
